TOOLS

Vintage tools are so rad. Last week at the Brooklyn Flea Market there was this great vendor that had a perfectly edited selection of old tools including pulleys, a house jack and plenty of beautiful unknowns... reminded me of how excited we get over tools.
Are there traveling vintage tools shows- you know, like gun shows and boat shows?

DIETER RAMS

Dieter Rams is a German industrial designer closely associated with the consumer products company Braun and the Functionalist school of industrial design. Just before I left London I saw an exhibition on his work at the Design Museum. The simplicity and seemingly obvious design is mesmerizing.

Dieter Rams' 10 principles to Good Design:

good design is innovative

good design makes a product useful

good design is aesthetic

good design helps us to understand a product

good design is unobtrusive

good design is honest

good design is long-lasting

good design is consequent to the last detail

good design is concerned with the environment

good design is as little design as possible

FARMS

During WWII, most all of London's city parks were converted to farmland, called 'Victory Gardens'. The produce from these "farms" accounted for over 40% of produce consumed during that time. Pretty resourceful. We have started to notice this sort of trend in NY recently. Check out the amazing work of Stacey at BK Farmyards and Rooftop Farms in Greenpoint.
